The instructions for the use of Amoxiclav suspension indicate that this medicine has a wide spectrum of action and is used in modern pediatrics to treat many pathologies. The drug in powder form for the manufacture of a suspension is prescribed even to babies from the first days of their life.

The composition (active substance) of the drug

The medicine "Amoxiclav" was created in the early 1970s along with the discovery of an inhibitor - clavulanic acid, which can destroy many harmful bacteria. The composition of this drug is based on a successful combination of substances such as amoxicillin and clavulanate, which, intruding inside a harmful cell, change the process of its vital activity and kill it.

Amoxiclav suspension is in the form of a dry powder. Among the many components that make up this antibacterial drug, there are 2 main: the antibiotic amoxicillin and the clavulanic acid inhibitor.

There are 3 dosages of active substances (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid) in suspension:

  • 125 mg + 31.25 / 5ml;
  • 250 mg + 62.5 / 5 ml;
  • 400 mg + 57 mg / 5 ml.

In pediatrics, only the first two are used.

In addition to these components, the composition of the drug also includes additional substances that provide its easier absorption and preservation:

  • mannitol;
  • lemon acid;
  • sodium salt;
  • xanthan gum (xanthan gum);
  • sodium saccharin (saccharin, saccharin sodium dihydrate);
  • cellulose gum;
  • flavors (cherry, lemon or strawberry flavor).

Pharmacological properties and indications for use

The considered antibacterial drug successfully acts against a wide range of pathogenic microorganisms, such as:

  • salmonella (cause salmonellosis);
  • brucella (cause of brucellosis);
  • echinococcus (a helminth that causes echinococcosis);
  • Proteus (conditionally pathogenic agents causing Protein infection);
  • staphylococci (pathogens of purulent processes), etc.

Powder for suspension is used to treat diseases in children in various fields:

  • dermatological pathologies (various allergies and edema);
  • inflammatory and bacterial diseases of the biliary tract (cholangitis, cholecystitis);
  • muscle diseases (polymyositis, dermatopolymiosis);
  • diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract (bronchitis, pharyngeal abscess, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia, acute sinusitis);
  • soft tissue diseases (various animal and insect bites).

At the discretion of the attending physician, Amoxiclav powder can be prescribed for other diseases.

Instructions and dosage of suspension "Amoxiclav" for children

In order to achieve the desired antibacterial effect and not harm the children's body, it is necessary to carefully observe the doctor’s prescription and follow the principles described in the instructions for the drug.

Each instruction contains, among other things, data in a tabular form on the dosages of Amoxiclav shown in the treatment of small patients of different ages.

In general terms, they are presented as follows:

  • for newborn children from birth to three months, the dose of the drug is 30 mg / kg of weight twice a day;
  • for babies aged three months to one year - half a teaspoon of the suspension three times a day;
  • for babies aged one to seven years - one teaspoon three times a day;
  • for children aged seven to fourteen, two teaspoons three times a day;
  • adolescents over fourteen years of age, the drug in the form of a suspension is recommended to replace it with a tablet form.

Dose determination is carried out using a teaspoon if, for some reason, there is no measuring spoon or pipette intended for this purpose.

Important. The duration of treatment with the drug under discussion is determined by the attending physician, but cannot last more than 14 days.

How to breed powder

Amoxiclav should be diluted by adding the required amount of boiled drinking water at room temperature in 2 doses to the powder bottle, shaking it thoroughly. The powder should completely dissolve in 10 - 15 seconds. As a result, a thick liquid is formed - a suspension.

The addition of water to the powder should occur as follows:

  • at a dosage of "Amoksiklava" 125 add 86 ml of water;
  • at a dosage of "Amoksiklava" 250 add 85 ml of water.

Before using the suspension, it is necessary to mix the contents of the container very carefully.

Take before or after meals

The only rule applies in this matter: it is recommended to take the drug at equal time intervals, at the same time every day throughout the entire treatment period. Preferred intake before eating. If we are talking about very young children, then the drug is added to the mixture or mother’s breast milk.

This rule allows you to minimize the possible adverse effect of the drug on the digestive tract.

The active substance reaches its maximum concentration in the body after about 50 minutes, and is completely eliminated from it after 15 days.

Drug interaction

The antibiotic Amoxiclav actively interacts with many other drugs.

Antibiotic Interaction:

  • with drugs containing glucosamine (for example, Structum), reduces antibiotic absorption;
  • with laxatives reduces antibiotic absorption;
  • with phenylbutazone dramatically increases the activity of the suspension;
  • with ascorbic acid increases the absorption of the antibiotic;
  • with antimetobolites (for example, "Methotrexate") increases the toxicity of the latter;
  • with bacteriostatic antibiotics reduces the effectiveness of Amoxiclav.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

Suspension categorically can not be taken with such diseases and conditions:

  • acute viral disease in which there is a change in the composition of the blood, damage to the lymph nodes, liver, spleen (for example, infectious mononucleosis);
  • hepatitis;
  • a pathology characterized by malignant lesions of the lymphatic tissues, for example, lymphocytic leukemia;
  • liver disease (e.g., kidney failure);
  • individual intolerance to some component of the drug or hypersensitivity to it.

In the case of the correct use of the drug, its side effects are rare.

However, if the dosage is violated, the frequency prescribed by the doctor is not observed or the drug is taken together with incompatible drugs, children may experience:

  • gastrointestinal disorders
  • migraines and sleep disturbance,
  • excessive activity and excitability.

In addition, negative consequences can occur in the form of skin reactions (itching, rash, urticaria), which practically does not occur.

There is no information about overdose.

Antibiotic Analogs

The drug was created in England and was called Augmentin. Amoxiclav suspension itself is an analogue of the English antibiotic and is produced in Serbia.

In our market, there are 4 main analogues of this drug of domestic production:

  • “Klamosar” - from the first days of a child’s life.
  • “Liklav” - from the first days of a child’s life.
  • "Arlet" - for children from 6 years.
  • "Ecoclave" - for children from 12 years.

All these antibacterial drugs have a similar composition and pharmacological effect. They are slightly cheaper than Amoxiclav suspensions, but they are no less effective.

There are also foreign similar suspensions:

  • “Augmentin”;
  • Flemoklav;
  • "Bactoclav";
  • Tazocin.

Replacement of the medicine should be made only after agreement with the attending physician.

Suspension Amoxiclav has a wide range of action and has proven effective in treating a wide variety of childhood diseases.
