If the child is overwhelmed by cramping, then the well-known No-Shpa drug will help, the dosage of the children of which is different from that required by adults. Therefore, you must be extremely careful when using. In this publication we learn in what form minors can prescribe a drug, what dosage should be adhered to. We also describe the conditions in which “No-Shpa” is prescribed, and the reasons that are a contraindication.

Release forms for children and their composition

The medicine is sold in two forms: these are tablets and injection. In the further contents we will find out whether everything is applicable for children, and from what age the use of “No-Shpy” is allowed. In the meantime, you need to study the composition of pills and injections. This is important, because the components of the medicine may be allergic.

Composition of pills:

  • drotaverine hydrochloride - 40 mg;
  • talc;
  • corn starch;
  • povidone;
  • lactose monohydrate.

Tablets in an amount of 6 to 100 pcs. packaged in blisters.

The injections are sold in ampoules of 1 and 2 ml, the composition is as follows:

  • drotavrein hydrochloride - 20 mg / 1 ml and 40 mg / 2 ml of the drug;
  • water d / and;
  • ethanol;
  • sodium disulfite.

"No-Shpa" in ampoules is completely ready for use, does not require additional dilution.

Pharmacological properties and pharmacokinetics

“No-Shpa” - a myotropic antispasmodic drug, relaxes smooth muscles of organs. This effect occurs by inhibiting the PDE enzyme, which leads to an increase in the concentration of cAMP.But not everything can equally successfully anesthetize No-Shpa, since it inhibits PDE4 without affecting PDE3 and 5, and PDE4 has a different concentration in different organs. To a large extent, the drug is used to eliminate pain in the digestive tract.

The antispasmodic drotaverin is endowed with high activity, but it has a minimum of detrimental effects on the heart and blood vessels, because it does not affect PDE3, which is responsible for the hydrolysis of cAMP in the smooth muscles of the myocardium and blood vessels.

“No-Shpa” eliminates pain caused by spasms of a neurogenic and muscle nature, therefore it helps to eliminate unpleasant and painful sensations in the abdomen (gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system and biliary tract).

Drotaverin, getting into tissues, is qualitatively and almost instantly absorbed. Up to 65% of the applied dose enters the bloodstream, and the drug reaches its maximum concentration in organs after 20-50 minutes (depending on the form of the drug).

Active components are evenly, and not selectively, distributed over all tissues of organs. Metabolites are endowed with the ability to partially penetrate the placenta, but do not have a detrimental effect on the fetus.

Metabolized substance in the liver. More than half of the drug is excreted through the kidneys, the rest comes out through the intestines.

Age restrictions on admission

The official annotation to the tablets states that they can not be consumed at the age of less than 6 years. However, practicing pediatricians rarely, but prescribe the drug in No-Shpa tablets to children. This can be done if other methods of treatment and medications approved for the age group do not help relieve pain syndromes.

Injections are not used for children, since no clinical trials have been performed on minors. In a hospital, injections can be given to children, but they are placed only under the strict supervision of a doctor.

There is an opinion that “No-Shpa” in ampoules can be used to give drops to babies up to a year old. On this occasion, only a pediatrician can give advice, and there is no way to independently determine the possibility of such treatment. The fact is that the solution contains ethanol - a harmful substance for the fragile body of children.

In what cases is a No-Shpu prescribed for a child? Helps No-Shpa children with pain, can quickly eliminate cramping. The medicine is prescribed to children in the following cases:

  • headache;
  • abdominal pain;
  • constipation;
  • spasms of the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, urinary and reproductive systems, biliary tract;
  • in the treatment of ulcers and gastritis;
  • peripheral artery spasm.

"No-Shpa" at a temperature does not relieve heat, as it has an antispasmodic effect. But nevertheless, the pills can be used in cases of the so-called “white fever”, when the child suffers from chills, accompanied by high body temperature. Drotaverin helps to cope with a fever, and children begin to feel better faster.

Instructions for use and dosage

Only the attending physician can prescribe a medication regimen and dosage. This publication contains information for informational purposes only. Each patient needs a separate, unique treatment, we have prescribed only the standard method of taking the drug.

No-Shpa tablets

In No-Shpa tablets, it is rare, but is nevertheless prescribed for infants. But the kids still can not swallow the pill on their own, and the reception can be carried out in the following ways:

  1. Knead the tablet in a spoon to a powder, dilute with milk or a mixture (water and juice are also suitable), drink it to the baby.
  2. Mom herself can use the medicine when she is breastfeeding. Through milk, the active components will enter the body in the right amount.

Children of different ages require different dosages and pills:

  1. Up to a year: 1/8 or 1/6 pills 1 to 3 times a day. The interval between doses should not be less than 4 hours.
  2. From 1 to 6 years: 1/4 or 1/2 pill at a time. The interval between doses of 3 hours.
  3. From 6 to 12 years: 0.5 or 1 tablet once. The maximum permitted dose in 24 hours is 80 mg, which equals 2 pills.
  4. From 12 years: 1 or 2 tablets at a time, the maximum dosage per day is 160 mg (4 pills).

Under no circumstances should you exceed the recommended single and daily dosages. If the child does not feel better after 1.5 hours after taking the medicine, then take him to the hospital or call a doctor at home.

In ampoules for injections

We wrote earlier that injections are not applicable for children under 18 years of age. If injections were prescribed in the hospital, then only a professional should put them down, and the child is monitored around the clock.

Do not use the injection to take drops orally by children, before that you need to get the permission of a doctor. Self-medication is dangerous, especially when it comes to the health of the child!

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

“No-Shpa”, like any medicine, has some contraindications, in which admission is either completely prohibited or allowed, but with extreme caution and under the supervision of medical personnel.

Contraindications:

  • acute liver, heart and kidney failure;
  • period of breastfeeding (there are no clinical data on taking the drug);
  • age less than 6 years - tablets, under 18 years - injections;
  • intolerance to the body of galactose and lactose;
  • lack of lactase;
  • allergic reaction to constituent substances.

Extremely carefully, all types of medication are used by pregnant women, children and patients with arterial hypotension.

Side effects are extremely rare, especially if there are no contraindications for admission due to health and age.

After taking the medicine, the following symptoms may appear:

  • lowering blood pressure;
  • heart palpitations;
  • headaches, lack of sleep and dizziness;
  • feeling of nausea, vomiting;
  • constipation;
  • red rashes on the skin, itching;
  • swelling at the injection site.

There is no evidence of an overdose of No-Shpo. If the child felt unwell, acute abdominal pain, nausea and dizziness appeared, then you need:

  1. Rinse the stomach by drinking a large amount of boiled water, causing artificial vomiting (if tablets were used).
  2. Urgently call a doctor or take the patient to the hospital yourself.

Attention, the speed of thinking and reactions of drotaverine and excipients are not affected.

Similar means

If, for some reason, the appointment of No-Shpa is impossible, then similar medicines can be purchased. The closest “relative” is Drotaverin. The composition of the drug almost completely repeats the composition of No-Shpy, the contraindications are the same, the dosage is similar.

But there is a difference:

  1. Drotaverin is cheaper (much).
  2. “No-Shpa” leaves the tissues in 72 hours, and “Drotaverin” does not remain even after 2 days (48 hours).

Therefore, with the complex treatment of diseases of gastritis, ulcer, cystitis, and so on, it is better to choose “No-Shpu”: it lasts longer. If you need to remove the spasm once, then Drotaverin is quite suitable.

Other analogues:

  • "Papaverine";
  • "Papazol";
  • Dibazole
  • "Plantex";
  • "Spazmol";
  • "Spazmonet";
  • "Spakovin".

As for Papaverine, it is also available in the form of rectal suppositories, it is easier to use them for children, and the action begins faster.

Once again, I want to say that only a doctor can prescribe any, even the most harmless drug. Do not risk the health of children and consult with your local pediatrician before using any medicine. Health to you and your loved ones!
