In diseases of the central nervous system in children, it is necessary to improve blood supply to the brain. Doctors in such cases often prescribe Cortexin. It is well tolerated by children and does not give side effects. Instructions for use of Cortexin for children will help parents to better learn its features and apply it correctly.

The composition of the nootropic drug

This medicine is made from dried and frozen matter, which is the cerebral cortex taken from cattle. It is a lyophilizate and contains a special variety of protein molecules - neuropeptides, which are highly soluble in water.

They have special properties:

  • highly effective;
  • act selectively on the organ in need of treatment;
  • compatible with other drugs;
  • well distributed in the right organ and excreted from the body.

The stimulating effect of neuropeptides is enhanced by the following substances, which are also part of the drug:

  • a number of essential amino acids;
  • water-soluble vitamins necessary for brain function - thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid
  • fat-soluble vitamins - retinol, tocopherol;
  • substances not synthesized in the body, their composition includes macro and microelements.

If the medicine is administered in a small dose, it is able to trigger the body's own repair mechanisms.

Why are Cortexin injections prescribed?

Cortexin constituents can cross the blood-brain barrier by penetrating brain tissue.

Their action is as follows:

  • improve the functional activity of the brain, including learning ability;
  • activate memory;
  • increase resistance to stress;
  • able to reduce the negative impact of psychotropic substances and counteract damage to neurons by neurotoxic factors;
  • they are antioxidants and prevent the peroxidation of fats, which increases the viability of neurons with a lack of oxygen;
  • increase the tone of the central nervous system and improve the functional activity of the cerebral cortex, activating the metabolism of neurons in both the central and peripheral nervous systems and enhancing recovery processes in them;
  • have an anticonvulsant effect;
  • are immunomodulators.

Cortexin injections are prescribed for children with the following pathologies:

  • cerebrovascular accident;
  • encephalopathies;
  • disorders associated with impaired memory and mental abilities;
  • concussion and other injuries associated with its damage, including the consequences;
  • encephalitis and encephalomyelitis;
  • Cerebral palsy;
  • disorders of intellectual and motor development, including their delay;
  • with a lag in speech development;
  • learning disabilities in counting and writing skills;
  • if the ability to focus is impaired or there is a hyperactive syndrome.

There are frequent cases when brain ischemia appears in newly born babies. And this is fraught with a stroke. According to statistics, it occurs in every four thousandth newborn. The consequences of such a pathology can be catastrophic. The score is literally minutes. Cortexin, together with other medicines, helps improve cerebral circulation.

Short-term ischemic attacks can lead to a stroke. In this case, the blood supply to the brain is disturbed for a short period - not more than a day. With such a pathology, the nootropic drug Cortexin helps in two directions at once - as a neuro- and angioprotector. There is evidence of good results with migraine attacks.

Age restrictions

There are no age restrictions when using the drug in children. He is shown even to a newborn, if there are prerequisites for his appointment.

Instructions for use and dosage for children

Cortexin is available in bottles, each of which contains 5 mg or 10 mg of the main active substance and 6 mg or 12 mg of stabilizing agent - glycine acts as its one.

Cortexin is administered intramuscularly.

In order to prepare a preparation for injection, 1 to 2 ml of one of the following substances is added to the contents of the vial:

  • special water intended for injection;
  • novocaine or procaine in the form of a solution with a concentration of 0.5%;
  • sodium chloride in the form of a solution with a concentration of 0.9%.

Dilute the drug so that foam does not appear, pointing the needle not at the medicine in powder, but at the wall of the vial. It is prepared immediately before stabbing, it is impossible to store the drug.

The duration of treatment is 10 days.

Dosage depends on the weight of the child:

  • those children whose weight does not exceed 20 kg are prescribed 0.5 mg per kilogram of weight;
  • with a weight of more than 20 kg, a dose of 10 mg is prescribed.

Injections are done daily once a day. A second course can be prescribed no earlier than 3 months later.

Drug interaction

Cortexin is prescribed only by the attending physician. It can not be mixed with solutions of other drugs in one bottle. There is no description of its interaction with other drugs.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

The only contraindication is individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Data on side effects and overdose is not yet available.

Analogs of means

Cortexin is effective and has a wide spectrum of action. But not all children can be given injections for various reasons.The drug, diluted with injectable water, causes pain when administered. Will have to look for analogues of the drug in tablets.

There are a lot of them.

  1. Aminalon is a tablet form based on gamma-aminobutyric acid.
  2. Actovegin - tablets or solution for injection into veins or muscles. It is made on the basis of calf blood, which is extracted from protein.
  3. Biotredin - tablets, contain L-threonine and pyridoxine hydrochloride.
  4. Vazobral tablets contain alpha-dihydroergocriptine mesylate and caffeine.
  5. Gliatilin - both capsules and a solution for administration to muscles or veins are available. The active substance is choline alfoscerate.
  6. Glycine - sublingual tablets based on the amino acid of the same name.
  7. Dimephosphone - a solution of dimethyladibutylaphosphonyl adimethylate. Assign to children from 12 years.
