Long Island cocktail - the story of the appearance of the drink

The drink was first mentioned in the 70s and quickly attracted attention because it contains several types of strong alcohol

It got its name, of course, in honor of the island in New York, which became the first residential settlement in that region. Many believe that this drink was first prepared by Chris Bendixen, but there are several more versions of its appearance.

  1. The first and most realistic - they came up with a cocktail during the ban on alcoholic beverages. Those who visited the bars wanted to drink immediately and a lot, so that no one would notice. Therefore, Long Island was not mixed in glasses, but in a regular mug, by color, it was completely like tea, and for the sake of convincingness, they also put lemon in it.
  2. Another option - in the USA, competitions were held in which it was necessary to reach the end of the street, while visiting each bar and drinking in it. In order for the participant to complete his journey in this institution, a killer cocktail was invented that quickly knocks down due to the fortress.
  3. The latest version - a couple came to the bar where Robert Butt worked. They began to curse. The woman delivered an ultimatum: either relationships or alcohol. Of course, the man chose the first, but when his companion went out for a couple of minutes, he asked me to pour the strongest mixture into his cup, which later became the basis of the drink.

To get the most out of Long Island, you need to serve it well.

  • Be sure to take a large, fully transparent glass. Pay attention to cleanliness: smudges and stains will not make the pitch beautiful.
  • You can add an unusual color to a drink if you use pineapple juice instead of cola. This will not be a classic option, but quite interesting and bright.
  • Traditionally served a cocktail with a slice of lemon, but if you wish, you can do it differently. Turn on the fantasy. For example, decorate with lime (it is more saturated) or use cherry on a skewer.Another option is fresh mint leaves. They not only change the appearance, but also give the drink a special aroma.
  • Do not forget about the tube. It should be medium in size so that it is pleasant and convenient to sip a drink from it. A bright, bent "straw" is also considered an integral part of Long Island and is therefore obligatory.
