Strawberries - a popular berry culture, which is necessarily present in every garden. However, in order to plant healthy and annually pleased with high yields, you should find out when to plant strawberries in the spring and how to do it correctly.

We plant strawberries in the spring, in which month: dates

Proper planting is an important component of successful cultivation of berries. Of no small importance is the determination of the optimal timing of planting seedlings. Some gardeners are of the opinion that this should be done in the autumn. But as a rule, autumn planting is carried out in areas with a mild climate, where seedlings have time to take root well and not freeze.

To protect the bushes and not expose them to unnecessary risk, it is better to plant in the spring:

  • in the southern regions - the beginning of March;
  • in the central districts of Russia - in the second half of April;
  • in the northern regions - in the first half of May.

If there is a risk of freezing frost, it is recommended to cover the plantings with a film.

On a note. The exact dates may be slightly adjusted depending on the weather forecast and cold resistance characteristics of the particular variety prepared for planting.

Place and methods of landing

So that the seedlings quickly adapt to the garden plot and bear fruit well, you should first select a place and prepare the soil. For strawberries, well-lit areas are selected where no solanaceous or pumpkin crops were cultivated last season. Ground water should be deep enough to prevent moisture stagnation in the root system of plants.

Strawberries prefer fertile, light soils with a loose structure and slightly acid reaction.To achieve these indicators, it is recommended that you dig up the site with the addition of compost, peat and sand. To disinfect the week before spring planting, it is recommended to pour the soil with a solution of copper sulfate with the addition of manganese. Preparing a working fluid of 200 g of fixed assets and 50 g of potassium permanganate per 10 liters of water.

Four methods of planting strawberries are most popular:

  1. The bush method - the planting scheme provides for maintaining a distance between plants of 50 cm, between rows - 70 cm. If you use a similar technique, which allows the bushes to grow better and give large fruits, few seedlings will be required, but the plantings will have to be carefully maintained, consisting of systematic weeding, loosening, mulching and removing mustache.
  2. Planting with nests - as a result of planting, hexagons are formed, between which the distance is 30 cm. And to receive them around the central bush with a distance of 10 cm in a circle, the remaining six plants are planted. With this method, it is possible to collect a fairly high yield from a small area. However, there is a minus, which consists in the use of a large amount of planting material.
  3. Planting in rows is a very popular way in which the yield is higher than in the first two cases. It is carried out as follows: between plants a distance of 15 to 25 cm is maintained, depending on the sparseness of the bush, and between rows is not more than 40 cm. Such plantings require standard care.
  4. The carpet method is a great choice for people who rarely visit the cottage and are not able to care for the plantings. In this case, the planting scheme provides for a distance between the bushes of 7 cm, and between rows - 30 cm. Due to the dense arrangement of strawberries, the mustache which does not break off, a “carpet” with its microclimate forms in a short time.

Important! If we plant strawberries correctly, then in the next season we will definitely enjoy quality berries.

How to prepare a seedling

After the site is prepared and the holes are dug according to the scheme chosen by the gardener, you can begin to prepare the planting material, which is recommended to buy at specialized points of sale.

Saplings with a closed root system are enough to immerse in water for 30 minutes, and shorten by 10 cm after the roots. If seedlings with an open root system were purchased, then after being in the water and pruning, it is recommended to lower the roots into a clay “mash” and then strawberries plant in open ground.

Landing technique:

  1. Saplings with a spread root system are lowered into the holes.
  2. The roots are sprinkled so that the hearts are flush with the surface of the soil.
  3. Plantings are watered, and after soaking up the water, the trunk circles are mulched.

If necessary, when there is a chance that there will be frosts, the berry can be covered with a film.

Possible errors when landing in the spring

When planting strawberries in open ground, gardeners usually make the following mistakes:

  1. Too close planting among themselves - because of this, poor ventilation and thickening are noted, leading to the development of gray rot. And also the result of breaking the planting pattern can be a rather poor crop of small berries.
  2. Excess fertilizers, as well as their improper use and choice - excessive application of nitrogen in the form of mineral agrochemicals can lead to intensive growth of green mass to the detriment of fruit formation. If manure was introduced during planting, then its excess can cause the root system to burn. And it is also not recommended to use calcareous mixtures, which negatively affect the formation and development of shoots.
  3. Deepening of the heart - a similar violation of the precipitation technique can lead to decay of the plant and death.

In order to subsequently enjoy delicious fruits, it is necessary to strictly follow the recommendations, since any violation of the schedule of planting work can cause the death of the plant or its painful condition.
