Strawberry "Lord" is one of the most beloved varieties among our gardeners. The berry gives a consistently high yield and is not too picky in care.

Characterization and description of the variety

If you make a brief description of the variety, its berries are large, of excellent taste, yield is very high, peduncles are very large and powerful. “Lord” has undeniable advantages over many other types of garden strawberries, but it also has its drawbacks.

This later plant was bred in Britain. The weight of one berry can reach 100 g. The variety is very winter-hardy, suitable for growing even in regions with little snow and cold winters. With proper and careful care, the bushes can bear fruit for up to 10 years.

The disadvantage of this variety is that large berries do not tolerate contact with water, and if the summer is rainy, the entire crop can simply rot. In addition, sockets from severe overmoistening also become ill and die.

Features and landing rules

Planting strawberries “Lord” will not be difficult for inexperienced gardeners. In general, agricultural technology of this variety is not too different from the necessary measures for other varieties of berry. The plant can not be planted in wetlands in the lowlands. The rest of the "Lord" is not too picky.

It is advisable to choose a place well-lit by the sun and dig it up with a bayonet. The earth should be cleaned of roots and unnecessary litter. After preparatory measures, the soil is disinfected by spraying with an ammonia solution, and then immediately begin to plant outlets.

The presented variety must be planted in a checkerboard pattern. The scheme of planting strawberries “Lord” is as follows: between the bushes leave a distance of at least one step (up to 60 cm). Many experienced gardeners plant the "Lord" immediately under the film, in order to further facilitate the care of the plantation. For this, small incisions are made in a special material, through which sockets are planted.

Planting of strawberries of this variety can be carried out both in spring and in autumn. Plants tolerate cooling very well.

Landing technology:

  1. On the prepared site, dig small holes in size of the rhizomes of seedlings.
  2. Pits shed a lot of water.
  3. The bushes are lowered into the recesses and, having spread the roots well, they are sprinkled with soil.
  4. Having rammed the earth a little around the outlets, the plants spill plentifully.
  5. After moistening, the soil is mulched, which helps to reduce the evaporation of moisture, prevents weed grass from germinating.

When planting, it is very important not to bury the "heart" in the ground. It should remain just above the level of the soil or be level with it. If you plant strawberries incorrectly, the plant simply will not bear fruit.
The next day, the plantation must be inspected. If some outlets are too deep, they are lifted. Hearts ”of bushes, which turned out to be much higher than soil level, are sprinkled with earth.

Cultivation and care

Frequent and plentiful watering is very important for the Lord variety. In the spring, before flowering, it is moistened three times a week, as the future harvest depends on it. On average, at least one liter of water must be poured under each outlet.

But moisture congestion, as well as excessive dampness, can be fatal to the plantation. Excess water adversely affects the taste of the fruit. An ideal option for moisturizing the berry is drip irrigation. If the summer is rainy, strawberry beds should be covered with foil.

Regularly loosen the soil and weed bushes, as weeds take the necessary moisture and nutrients from the soil. Weeding and loosening should be the day after watering.
"Lord" is very sensitive to fertilizing. Immediately after planting, in the spring, the first fertilizer is introduced, consisting of peat and humus. At the beginning of the growing season, mineral supplements such as urea or superphosphate are useful. The mixture is applied to the soil at the rate of 50 g per square.

To increase productivity just before flowering, the berry is fertilized with nitrogen. In no case should you increase the required dosage of nitrogenous fertilizers, as they stimulate the plant to build up green mass to the detriment of the crop.

As soon as the fruits begin to set, the berry is fertilized with potassium nitrate (2 tbsp. L. Of the drug per 10 l of water), pouring 300 ml of the solution under each outlet.

Before wintering, “Lord” is fertilized with mullein (100 g of manure per 10 l of liquid). After two weeks, strawberries are treated with a solution of ash, for which a glass of fertilizer is diluted in 10 l of water, adding 2 tbsp to the mixture. l nitrofoski.
It is very important to feed the presented variety only with ripened organics, since there is a risk of burning the roots.

A huge role in the cultivation of strawberries is played by mulching, which protects the soil from drying out, and in winter - from frost. For this, coniferous litter or straw is used.

Propagation of strawberries "Lord"

The best way to grow a berry is seed. You can collect seeds yourself, for which the largest fruits are selected, and the seed parts are cut from them. Next, the berries are ground, dried, soaked for several days in plain water. The resulting blanks can be immediately sown. The best time for sowing is January – March.

After the appearance of sprouts, they are thinned out and begin to gradually harden. To do this, the boxes are carried out into the air, gradually increasing the duration of the procedure.

When propagating the "Lord", the mustache takes only the first row of sockets. When the roots on a small bush grow a little and 2 leaves appear on them, seedlings can be separated and planted on a new bed with an interval of 12 cm.
After planting, young sockets are watered twice a day - in the evening and early in the morning. It is imperative to provide shelter from the sun. A seedling can be considered to have taken root when the third leaf appears on it.During this time, the earth around young plants is loosened and weed.

Another large-fruited variety can be propagated by dividing an adult bush, which has reached four years of age. Do it in spring or late fall. Each new divide must have its own growth point and leaves. However, when using this method varietal benefits are not always transmitted.

Protection against diseases and pests

The main attraction of the Lord variety is its resistance to the appearance of diseases and pests, however, some difficulties may still arise when growing strawberries.

It is best to use folk methods of dealing with "strawberry misfortunes", as they are safe. For example, they get rid of wireworms by treating sockets with lime or manganese. Corn flour will help to destroy snails, and strawberry processing with kerosene allows scaring away silkworms.

It is easier to carry out prophylaxis than to then treat diseased bushes. Therefore, the plantation should be regularly inspected and timely removed damaged parts of plants. Proper care of strawberry beds is a guarantee of the health of the berry.

But it also happens that prevention still does not help prevent the development of diseases. The berry most often affects gray rot, which occurs due to excess moisture. The main symptoms of plant damage are the appearance of a grayish gun on parts of the bush. The first thing to do in this case is to process the beds with mustard. It is necessary to dilute 100 g of high-quality powder in 10 l of hot water, withstand the solution for two days, then spray the diseased plants.

You can get rid of the problem by treating the beds with the following solution: dilute ½ tsp in 10 l of hot water. boric acid, 1 tsp iodine and 5 g of copper sulfate. Spray the plantation with the obtained medicinal composition twice with an interval of 2 weeks.

Of chemical preparations, gardeners use Derozal, as well as Euparen.

Harvesting and storage

The fruits of the "Lord" are perishable, so you need to collect them every day. Berries are picked until they are pink, without waiting for full ripening. Such a product can be sent for two to three days in the refrigerator. The maturity dates of the Lord strawberries allow you to increase the season period to two weeks.

Harvested berries are best placed in wicker baskets or wooden containers covered with clean paper. Fruits quickly release juice, so they are laid in one layer. Berries do not need to be washed. Strawberries do not have good transportability, so it should be used / implemented as quickly as possible.

Variety "Lord" is rightly called a classic strawberry genre. Its fragrant, large, attractive berries will not leave anyone indifferent, and to cope with a fairly simple care for strawberries is not a difficult task even for beginner gardeners.
