Strawberry "Eliane" won the hearts of our gardeners with excellent taste and a classic, regular form of berries.

Characteristics and description of the variety "Eliana"

If you make a brief description of the variety, it is large-fruited, well adapted to the winters of the middle strip, high-yielding. With one bush, you can collect with proper care up to two pounds of fruit.

Strawberry bushes are very powerful, peduncles grow high above the leaves. By the end of spring, the variety gives the first berries. Fruits strawberries until mid-July. Without a decrease in productivity in one plot, "Eliana" can be grown up to 8 years.

The variety was bred in the Netherlands in 1998.

Technology of planting plants in the ground

The variety grows perfectly on absolutely any soil, but on fertile productivity will be much higher.

The ideal option is a site with light loamy or sandy loamy soil.

The selected area is dug up on a bayonet and organic is added at the rate of 5 kg per square. Also, when preparing the beds, it is useful to add mineral mixtures and fertilizers in which there is a lot of potassium and also calcium at the rate of 30 g of the drug per square. The beds should be well settled, so they begin to be prepared a couple of months before the planned planting.

It is more expedient to plant a new plantation using one-year bushes. As experience shows, seedlings that were planted in April and May take root much better. Wait for the harvest in the first season is not worth it.

Of the rosettes planted in the summer, only 50% are rooted. But such seedlings will also have time to take root well before frost and will give a good harvest for the next season. A good option is to land in August.Depending on the autumn weather, the outlets will have time to lay their buds and give the first crop for next year.

You can not plant outlets with spots on the leaves or poorly developed root system. Also pay attention to the horn, the thickness of which should be at least 7 mm.

Landing technology:

  1. On prepared beds mark holes.
  2. The seedlings are lowered into the pits and the roots are well spread. The optimal step when planting sockets is 60 cm between rows and 25 cm between sockets.
  3. Sprinkle the bushes with soil. It is necessary to ensure that the heart is at ground level or slightly higher.
  4. After planting, the bushes are shed and mulched.

The next day, a new plantation must be inspected. If there are sockets, the heart of which during landing was covered with earth, they need to be lifted by pulling up. If the bushes are planted too high, they should be sprinkled with earth.

Berry Care Rules

The yield of a variety primarily depends on how well the care of the plantation is organized.

The frequency of watering depends on weather conditions. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

It is best to irrigate plantings in the early morning. Before the first buds appear, plants are watered from a watering can. In the process, the leaves are washed away from dust. When the rosettes bloom, watered only under the root, preventing droplets from falling onto the flowers.

In hot weather, water the beds should be every week. Approximate consumption per square - about 25 liters. With the appearance of berries, the frequency of watering is reduced, it is impossible to pour moisture on the fruits, otherwise they will rot.

It is important to use warm water for irrigation, as cold water will cause plants to stop growing. Many gardeners put containers in the sun in the morning, and in the evening they add strawberries to the heated water.

Be sure to keep the plantation clean. After watering, weeds weed, loosen the ground, and renew the mulch layer. Weed grass can drown the growth of bushes, which will certainly affect fruiting. Weeds should be removed with the root.

Garden strawberries need to be fed. You need to do this regularly throughout the season, starting in early spring.

  • In the period of ovary appearance, before and during flowering, “Eliana” is fed with complex mineral compounds.
  • Strawberries also need fertilizers after fruiting. From organic top dressing, peat or well-rotted manure, humus is used. Typically, organics use about 20 kg per square bed.

Care for strawberries "Eliana" is also in the mandatory mulching of bushes. As mulching material, you can use foliage, straw or grass, sawdust. The mulch layer should be at least 10 cm. Thanks to this simple method, the berries will remain clean even after rains, the moisture will not evaporate from the soil so quickly, and the weed grass will germinate.

Strawberry propagation methods

It’s easiest and easiest to propagate this hybrid with a mustache on its site. Each bush for the season gives them several. When growing strawberries, the mustache should be trimmed for harvest. In order to plant a large plantation on your site, you need to choose strong, mature bushes, the whiskers from which will not be removed.

In the summer, plants will give a lot of planting material - on each mustache there will be two - three young outlets. They are dripped and often watered for faster rooting. At the end of summer, the bushes are separated from the mother plants and transplanted to a new place.

You can still propagate the berry in the seed way, but it is very laborious and time-consuming.

Pest and Disease Control

Although Eliana is highly resistant to diseases and pests, some problems can happen.

  • So, the bushes sometimes get gray rot. Symptoms of the disease - the appearance of depressed pits on the berries and leaves. Affected bushes will have to be destroyed, and the rest of the plants - treated with fungicides.
  • Strawberries are often affected by late blight. This fungus leads to the appearance of brown spots on the leaves, the berries begin to rot. To combat this disease, Bordeaux fluid is used.
  • Of the parasite insects, the hybrid most often attacks the strawberry tick, which may even become the culprit of the death of an entire plantation. It is very difficult to discern a tiny insect, but with the naked eye the “fruits” of his labors are clearly visible - the leaves of the bushes begin to turn yellow, die, and the berries are fading.

You can get rid of most of the parasites by picking up the affected foliage from the bushes. After this, the plantation is treated with “Akarin” or “Fufanon” preparations. Effectively and such a folk remedy as a decoction of onion peels.

Harvesting and Aftercare

Berries must be collected every day, or at least every other day. After harvesting, strawberries should be watered abundantly. Then the bushes begin to prepare for wintering.

You can not weed strawberries in the fall, since weed grass provides additional protection from the cold.

Although the Eliana is winter hardy enough, it should winter under the shelter in the middle lane.

You can use coniferous litter or spruce branches. Fallen leaves or the remains of mowed lawn grass will also work. Many gardeners use agrofibre from artificial materials.

Possible growing problems

The main problem that a gardener may encounter when growing a hybrid is small berries or even a lack of a crop. In order to achieve stable fruiting from the berry, you must remove the mustache all season and cut off the excess leaves.

The removal of the mustache stimulates the bushes to bear fruit. Excess foliage also takes away those forces from plants that can be spent on ripening berries. You can safely cut up to a third of the green mass from the bush. It is especially important to remove the leaves that cover the fruits from the sun.

Strawberry "Eliane", planting and care of which is very simple, will become the pride of a gardener. But this is possible only if all the rules of agricultural technology are strictly followed.
