As a modern and active mother, even during pregnancy, I began to study different types of kangaroos for newborns. It turned out that not all of them are equally safe for children.

The important points that I found out:

  • it is better to choose a carrier made of natural breathable materials;
  • for a purchase you should not go to children's department stores, but to specialized stores for moms;
  • if a kangaroo is needed for a short time (for a trip), you can rent it.

How to choose a convenient carry

Most people call a kangaroo carrier for children all kinds of devices for fixing a child to an adult, and I thought the same. But this is not entirely true. A kangaroo backpack is just one of these devices.

In addition to it there are:

  • slings (scarf, with rings, meisling);
  • ergoryukzaki;
  • hipsites;
  • carrycots.

I found that the latest model is not only uncomfortable, but also unsafe. Therefore, I did not consider it at all as a baby carrier. The rest differ in the permitted age of use, mobility and convenience.

To make a choice, I first asked myself a few questions:

  1. Will it be long walks or short dashes?
  2. Buy one view for all occasions or several under the circumstances?
  3. Will you have to put it on yourself or will there be help?

After searching for answers, the circle of choice narrowed significantly. I needed a carry for short trips on business or to shops, since a stroller is more convenient for walking.I did not want to collect all the variety of models at home, and there were no extra funds in the decree, so it was decided to focus on versatility. I did not expect any help in putting on the carry, which also played a role in the selection.

But it is better not to dwell on one option, but pick 1-2 and leave the final decision to the child. After all, the most important thing is how the baby will feel in carrying. Therefore, all models must first be tried on in the store (or with a friend, as it was in my case). In this case, it is not necessary to buy there! It can be ordered from the online store or purchased from hand. But it is important to remember that a purchase without trying on it can turn into a sore back or dissatisfaction with the child and putting it off in the box forever.

Interesting! Many sling stores have consultants who will not only help you pick up the carrier, but also teach you how to use it. You can come to them more than once (there is a service to call a specialist at home).

Best baby kangaroo patterns

Kangaroo for babies from 0 to 6 months is not used. This is due to the structural features of the spine of infants, which does not have a sufficient number of bends and is not able to withstand a large load.

For babies, there are several options for carrying:

  • sling-scarf - a large canvas that is specially wound around the mother, supporting the child (not suitable for a hot summer, it is difficult to fix it on the body yourself);
  • sling with rings - a cloth with two large rings that fix the baby (easier to use, thinner fabric, but in a walk it is problematic to fix it or wind it up again);
  • Meisling - a few wide strips of fabric with straps that are tied like a backpack (the most convenient, in my opinion, but expensive model);
  • Ergorypack with a tab for newborns - a wide part for fixing the back of the baby with small straps (not suitable for the summer period, but will last longer than others).

All these carry are allowed for infants. And which one will be more convenient to use, each mother decides for herself. I had a limited budget and needed carrying for short shopping trips or a business trip. Therefore, the choice fell on an ergosack with a tab for newborns. It is worth mentioning that the carrying was already small by the age of 2 months, since the boy was quite large. Therefore, you need to consider this parameter when choosing.

Since how many months can I use

A baby kangaroo bag can be used from 6 months. This is due to the formation of ossification nuclei in the hip joint. My son did not have them at this age (this is not considered a pathology, they may appear later). Therefore, the option with a kangaroo has disappeared from me. But if the nuclei of ossification are formed, and the muscles are strengthened, the use of this model is not dangerous.

Attention! It is not recommended to carry the baby in the carrier for more than 40-60 minutes. After this time, you need to get it out and knead a little, having done a massage or exercise.

Also, from six months, the baby has an interest in the world around him. Then you can wear it for a while facing your mother. But neurologists say that it’s not worth abusing this position: due to the excess of emotions received, the child’s nervous system is in great tension. In this case, parents will be provided with evening hysteria before falling asleep and frequent night awakenings.

How to wear a baby

So that the mom’s mobility does not harm the child’s health, pediatricians advise observing several principles when carrying it:

  • the baby’s stomach is firmly pressed to the body of an adult, which will provide him with emotional calm;
  • the child’s head is supported even when he already confidently owns it to enable him to sleep with fatigue;
  • the back of the child is tightly covered and fixed in a natural position in the form of the letter "C" (a prerequisite until the moment of confident sitting);
  • the distance between the chin of the baby and the mother’s body is at least 1 finger, which ensures safe breathing;
  • if necessary, get something off the floor to sit down, and not try to bend down to prevent the baby from falling out of the carrier.

If the child is older than 6 months and sits confidently, the rules are more loyal. But the position of the head and chin should always be monitored to avoid choking. In some cases, it is permissible to place the baby “facing the world”, but not for long.

Pros and cons of using

There are several obvious advantages to wearing a child on yourself:

  • mom's mobility;
  • close contact of the child with adults;
  • horizons development.

Of the unobvious advantages, when wearing in an ergosack and meysling, prophylaxis of hip dysplasia due to the M-shaped position of the legs occurs.

But there are also disadvantages to using hyphenation:

  • load on the spine of an adult;
  • bulkiness of some models (scarves, sling with rings).

When carrying a child in a kangaroo is a load on his pelvic bones. Therefore, this model is recommended to be used only if the others did not fit.

Sling or kangaroo - which is better

Each type of carry has its pros and cons.

I compared them in several ways:

  • ease of use - the leaders here are meysling and an ergorepack, a kangaroo holds a confident middle, and slings are difficult to wind;
  • position correctness - all types of slings and an ergorepack provide prophylaxis of hip dysplasia, and a kangaroo, on the contrary, gives them additional load and also poorly supports the spine of the baby;
  • review for the child - the face from the mother can only be placed in the kangaroo, but in the slings the baby can be put behind his back, and he will have the same review as the parents;
  • load on the back of an adult - in a kangaroo it is higher due to the uneven distribution of the weight of the child.

Comparing all the carryings by these parameters, I settled on an ergosack. The last point was decisive, since my sore back was tired even with the correct load distribution. And my son did not complain about the opening review, since he actively turned his head around.

Contraindications

My son at 6 months according to the conclusion of the orthopedist had no ossification nuclei. In this condition, do not overload the musculoskeletal system, so the kangaroo backpack did not suit us. Surgeons do not allow it to be used for hip dysplasia. All other types of transfers are not prohibited in this disease. You also need to consider how many months this or that type of model is allowed. After all, a mismatch of age can provoke deformation of the spine or joints.

Moms should not carry a child for a long time in the presence of varicose veins or spinal diseases. If you experience pain or discomfort in the back, it is better to give the body a rest. I managed to carry my son for an hour with my scoliosis, but a feeling of fatigue appeared.

Here is what one of the mothers who chose the kangaroo backpack says: “My husband was the first to try this backpack on himself, he stood in it for only 15 minutes, after 10 minutes of wearing he was just tired of carrying the child in it, and his back hurt. Later I decided to try this backpack on myself and I, I withstood a little longer, 20 minutes, and, like my husband, quickly weakened me and my back ached terribly. ”

Selecting a model is not only for the baby, but also as the mother. Since I have back problems, I did not experiment with the kangaroo. But if this type of carrying does not cause discomfort to either an adult or a child, and the hip joints are healthy, then from 6 months you can safely use this model.
