Choosing an avocado is no easy task. Many hesitate about which fruit is better to take: completely ripe and ready for further use, or firm and requiring ripening. But in both cases it will be useful to know how to store an avocado in order to prolong its freshness and mouth-watering appearance.

How to store a whole ripe avocado

The basic storage rules directly depend on the degree of maturity. Check it easily: you need to gently press a finger on the skin of the fetus. It should squeeze a little, but not form a deep dent. It is very difficult to determine ripeness only by color, since in nature there are more than 5 hundred types of avocados, and each of them has its own special shade, which changes as it ripens.

At room temperature, unripe fruits can be kept for 2 weeks. However, this does not mean that fruits can be put in a suitable box and forget about them. It is necessary to revise from time to time, evaluating the condition of the product by changing the shade and degree of hardness in order to eat in a timely manner.

Whole ripe fruits at home must be placed in a cold and dark place. This will help to maintain their integrity and elasticity for 3-4 days.

Ripe fruits wrapped in a plastic bag and paper, placed near the back of the refrigerator, retain excellent palatability for almost a week. But if the fruits have acquired a suspiciously soft consistency or they are noticeable drips of liquid (juice secreted), then they must be eaten in a short time.

Storage of the cut fruit

It is very problematic to store an already cut avocado. It often happens that the fruit inside turned out to be completely unsuitable for eating.

Therefore, you need to look for other storage methods:

  1. Connect the cut slices, very tightly pressing them to each other. The bone does not need to be removed. The contact of the cut pulp with air should be minimal.
  2. Place the cut and connected fruit in a dense transparent plastic bag and let the air out of it to the maximum. The same technique is suitable for preserving the freshness of whole fruits.
  3. Send the “sealed” product to a cold place. After a few days, the avocado will ripen.

If the fruit has already been cut, but still need time for its intended use, it is advisable to lubricate the slices with freshly squeezed lemon juice. This will slow down the oxidation process and help prevent pieces from darkening. Olive oil has the same effect: it creates an airtight barrier that prevents the access of oxygen.

Sliced slices or unused half of the fruit is recommended to be stored in a regular container with onion slices. The substances that make up the vegetable prevent the fruit from darkening and help maintain its freshness. Do not be afraid of the appearance of a bad smell: extraneous and unpleasant “aromas” do not absorb into the pulp at all.

Salads with chopped avocado slices can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours.

Conditions for the alligator pear to ripen

Unripe fruits should not be stored in cold places: they simply will not be able to reach the desired maturity and will be tasteless. At a temperature of about 24 degrees, the fruit ripens in 6-7 days. If you pre-wrap it in a bag of paper, the process will accelerate. It will take 3-4 days.

Many people are interested in how to store an avocado so that it ripens.

This process can be provided in a simple way:

  1. Choose a good ripe apple or banana.
  2. Put the selected fruit in a paper bag with unripe avocado.
  3. Close tightly and leave for up to two days.

Fruits in the process of ripening emit a considerable amount of ethylene, which stimulates and accelerates the ripening of nearby fruits.

Rules for Avocado Freezing

The only negative of the presented method is that the fruit loses part of its vivid taste and characteristic appetizing smell. But still, the frozen fruit can be successfully used as an ingredient for salads, cocktails, mashed potatoes, sauces, various pastries.

Storage options in the freezer:

  1. Peel the skin, remove the stone. Cut the pulp into slices of the desired size. Wrap in a bag or put in a container. Make a mark with the date of freezing on top.
  2. Grind the pulp to a puree state. Pour 0.5 tbsp into the mass. l lemon juice, which slows down the oxidation processes, so storage will be better. The prepared composition must be transferred to a suitable plastic box or bag, but not filled to the top, since the crushed mass will slightly increase when freezing. You can store the workpiece in this way a little less than six months.

If the frozen product began to acquire a brown tint, then the spoilage process is close. Thaw the workpiece immediately and use it as soon as possible.

Already thawed fruit puree should be consumed in the near future. Repeated such processing is not allowed, as this leads to a complete loss of useful properties and all the taste qualities of the workpiece. They also do not recommend storing a thawed dish in the refrigerator - it will not stand there for a long time and will quickly deteriorate.
