Irish coffee is not the drink we are used to drinking in the morning. This is because one of its components is alcohol, therefore it is not just a coffee mix, but a full-fledged alcoholic cocktail.

By the way, where, when and thanks to whom this drink was born is known to the whole world.

This happened on July 19, 1942, at the Shannon International Airport in Ireland.

In the bars of this airport, American pilots waited hours for their flights, and bartender Joseph Sheridan treated them to a warming drink of tea and Irish whiskey. But that day he decided to change the recipe and changed the tea for coffee ... that is how Irish Coffee was born! But fame was provided to him by the ordinary American reporter Delaplan, who at that day was behind the bar and was able to taste such an amazing drink.

During the war, the airport was closed, then Delaplan did not forget about the drink and ten years later he shared the recipe with Keppeler, the owner of a bar in San Francisco. It was he who gave the cocktail a new life. He transformed it with creamy “clouds” and came up with a special presentation. Since then, the composition of the drink in Irish provides for the presence of Irish strong whiskey, natural coffee, grains of brown sugar and rich farm cream.

Irish coffee - a classic recipe

The original recipe involves the use of Beanley coffee beans, but if you could not find such coffee, then you can take any freshly brewed drink.

Ingredients:

  • 37 ml of whiskey (about five teaspoons);
  • two teaspoons of sugar (preferably brown);
  • two incomplete cups of brewed coffee;
  • some whipped cream (cold).

Cooking method:

  1. First of all, you need to warm the glass, for this, ordinary hot water is poured into it.
  2. Now we make coffee. You can use a coffee pot with a press, where three tablespoons of ground coffee (with a slide) are poured and poured with boiling water. Such a coffee pot filters the coffee and retains all its value.
  3. Take the chilled cream and froth them with a regular whisk, but not in a dense foam. They should turn out dense and at the same time viscous.
  4. It’s best to keep all the ingredients on hand to make the drink fast. Pour water from a glass and immediately pour whiskey. From contact with the hot walls of the bowl, alcohol will begin to fully distribute its aroma.
  5. We immediately pour coffee, pour in the sweet sand, stir until the sweet grains disappear. Put cream on top. Now you can enjoy a delicious, unsurpassed aroma of a strong drink.

How to cook with whiskey

There is another recipe for a drink with whiskey, which differs from the classic version in the way it is prepared. This drink is called "Irish coffee with fiery whiskey."

Irish coffee with whiskey is prepared as follows:

  1. The glass is heated, alcohol is poured into it and sweet crystals are poured. As soon as they dissolve, the contents of the bowl are set on fire. This technique allows you to slightly dampen the taste of alcohol, and give the drink a pleasant aroma of caramel.
  2. After a couple of seconds, the flame is extinguished and the coffee is poured. Many professionals prefer arabica medium-rare. The drink can be brewed in a coffee machine or prepared in a French press.
  3. The glass is covered so that all the ingredients begin to interact with each other.
  4. Then decorate the drink with slightly whipped chilled cream.

With the help of sweet syrups (topping), you can protect the drink from quick cooling.

Hot drink with Baileys liqueur

Whiskey is a drink for men, therefore, especially for women, they came up with an Irish Cream coffee recipe with fragrant, delicate Baileys cream liqueur. Such a drink, according to professionals, is the best remedy against any depression that many women are so often affected by.

Ingredients:

  • 155 ml of coffee;
  • 45 ml of Baileys liquor;
  • 45 ml cream.

Baileys cream liqueur is sweet in taste, therefore it is better not to add sugar to the cocktail so that it does not come out too cloying.

Cooking method:

  1. We send liquor to a warm glass, then gradually pour hot coffee.
  2. Shake the cream and decorate the drink. If coffee is sugar free, then the cream can be sprinkled with chocolate chips.

Irish Coffee with Cinnamon

There are recipes using other components that give the drink a special taste and aroma. We suggest you try a cinnamon flavored cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 245 ml of water;
  • two teaspoons of coffee (per serving);
  • 65 ml of whiskey;
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon (1/4 of a fragrant stick);
  • 110 ml cream;
  • to taste in equal proportions white and brown sugar.

Cooking method:

  1. We will make coffee in Turk. To do this, grind the grains, mix them with cinnamon, two types of sweetener, pour water and brew a drink.
  2. We warm the glass, pour coffee through the strainer, introduce alcohol and put the cream on top. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon.

European version of the drink

The European Irish Coffee is in many ways different from the original recipe. Such a drink is more like a latte than an Irish one. But, one thing that remains unchanged here is the presence of whiskey. Therefore, this drink also applies to hot alcoholic cocktails, and not to coffee drinks with milk.

To make it, a little more coffee is required, about 200 ml.

  1. A quarter of the alcohol is taken from this volume.
  2. In a glass combine two drinks, add sugar. It uses reed, but if it is not, you can take a white sweetener and dry it until golden in a dry frying pan.
  3. Then you need to take cream or fat milk, heat it and pour into the bowl with the contents.

The finished drink is more tender, suitable for those who do not really like strong coffee.

Design and Submission

As mentioned above, the original transparent glass with a handle on a low leg is used for serving. The walls of the glass retain heat, and the handle will not let your fingers burn. Plus, the transparency of the glass makes it possible to evaluate the whole contrast of the shades of the finished drink.

 

It is not necessary to mix the contents of the glass; everything has already been done until the moment when the drink was decorated with cream.

They drink Irish Cream coffee in large sips, but not through a pipe, so as not to upset the harmony of taste. It is also not worth seizing a drink with various desserts. But if you really want to, then it is better to choose a light dessert, like Tiramisu or souffle.

You can also make a soft drink, where the whiskey is offset by different syrups and juices. For example, pour coffee into a warm glass, then add a spoonful of orange juice and a little less lemon. All mixed and served with snow-white cream.
