  1. As an active ingredient - purified glycerin (glycerol), 1.24 g per suppository.
  2. As well as excipients responsible for the form of the drug and its storage.

Indications for the appointment of glycerin suppositories

Since the action of rectal suppositories is directed exclusively against the symptoms of constipation, and not its causes, you need to use them only if necessary

The drug is indicated for:

  • delayed bowel movements for more than two days (especially if this condition is accompanied by poor health and increased irritability of the baby due to discomfort in the abdomen);
  • the child’s presence of wounds, cracks and erosion in the rectum caused by frequent constipation;
  • prescribing antibacterial drugs to the baby that often cause fecal compaction;
  • the development of crumbs allergic reactions to other laxatives;
  • treatment of diseases of the rectum and intestines.

At what age can I use

Lack of stool at a young age can be caused by many pathological processes in the body. However, most often in children, this condition is associated with improper intake of water or food.

You can use candles if bowel movements have not been more than two days.For each child's age, there are specific features of the use of rectal laxative suppositories.

In the first three months after birth, the baby is better not to put candles, because:

  • during this period he learns to adapt to life outside the mother's womb;
  • suppositories may interfere with the diagnosis of a serious disease;
  • they may develop an allergy.

If the child’s constipation is caused by a congenital pathology, laxatives will prevent it from being detected on time. For this reason, only as a last resort for children under one year old therapy is indicated with half a glycerin or sea buckthorn candle. Most often, the treatment course lasts three days, but the attending physician has the right to correct it.

Further, up to 3 years, you can use candles:

  • glycerin;
  • sea buckthorn;
  • with gas generating effect.

Candles with glycerin gently irritate the intestinal mucosa, activate the process of peristalsis and bowel movements. They are effective and safe.

If the baby has constipation very rarely, sea buckthorn suppositories will help to eliminate it. They gently affect the intestines, do not cause side effects and help to avoid anal fissures.

It is advisable to use gas-forming suppositories in the absence of the urge to defecate. They irritate the mucous membrane and stimulate the discharge of feces.

At the age of five, it is already possible to use suppositories:

  • "Relief";
  • "Bisacodyl";
  • glycerin / sea buckthorn.

Medicines are quick-acting, so the urge to defecate will occur 15 minutes after administration.
