- In the sachet, small granules of particles are used, which are quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, however, the process will require more time than in case of taking a liquid form.
- Capsules are the most convenient type of medicine, as it is convenient to take them to work and on a trip. However, due to the need for longer digestion, the therapeutic effect is observed later.
The main active component of the drug is simethicone. Different forms of release use various additional components.
One capsule contains 40 mg of simethicone, as well as:
- gelatin - for the formation of the desired form of substances;
- glycerol is necessary for better absorption by the vessels of the active component;
- methyl parahydroxybenzoate - a synthetic substance that is used as an antiseptic and preservative for the gelatin shell;
- sun sunset yellow (E110), quinoline yellow (E104) - synthetic compounds used as dyes.
The latter are capable of causing allergic skin reactions in young children. Contraindicated in people suffering from aspirin intolerance.
100 ml of the emulsion contains 800 mg of simethicone and a number of excipients:
- methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate - as an antiseptic additive and preservative;

- Polysorbate 80 - a viscous liquid, soluble in water, and necessary for the formation of a more reliable connection between substances;
- sodium cyclamate - a sweetener to give a pleasant aftertaste;

- saccharin sodium salt is a granular substance that is poorly soluble in water, but has a more pronounced sweet taste than sugar;

- macrogol stearate 40 - a connecting link for the formation of the mixture, is capable of absorbing a large amount of moisture and draining the mucous membranes;

Pharmacological properties

- Children over 14 years of age and adults are prescribed three times a day for one sachet of the drug. If necessary, it is possible to increase the dose to two sachets. The maximum allowable amount is six sachets per day.

- Before the procedure of an X-ray or ultrasound examination: three doses of 50 drops a day before the day of the study and 50 ml in the morning.
- If it is necessary to obtain a clearer image, when adding a contrast agent, up to 200 drops of Espumisan L emulsion is added an additional 1 liter.
- When poisoning with household chemicals, the drug is used once: for adults - from 250 to 500 drops, depending on the severity of the poisoning; children - up to 250 drops of the drug.
During pregnancy and lactation
Instructions for the use of any form of the drug reports that its administration is possible during gestation. The period of breastfeeding is also not a contraindication, since the drug is not absorbed from the digestive tract and is excreted from the body in an almost unchanged form.
Drug interaction
Studies have not revealed any significant effect of carminative on the effectiveness of other drugs.
Contraindications, side effects and overdose
A contraindication for taking the drug Espumisan is an allergic reaction to any of the components present in the composition. Studies have shown that most often this is observed while taking the capsules, as they contain very toxic dyes.
Also, the prescription of a carminative is undesirable in the case of treatment of children under the age of six. If necessary, it is possible to use only an emulsion and carefully monitor possible allergic reactions.
