Among the many drugs used in the treatment and prevention of infant colic, special respect for mothers was won by the German product Espumisan for newborns. It is approved for use literally from birth and is absolutely safe. It is important for mothers to know in what form to purchase the drug, why it is needed, what are the features of its dosage and what are the possible analogues.

Types, release forms and composition of Espumisan Baby

For newborns (up to 28 days of life) and infants, 2 forms of medication are available:

  • "Espumisan L" in a bottle of 30 ml;
  • and drops of "Espumisan Baby" in 30 and 50 ml.

They differ in the amount of the main substance of simethicone, the dosage regimen and the price. A prescription is not required to purchase these medicines. However, you must consult your pediatrician before use.

Espumisan L contains 40 mg of the main component in 1 ml. According to this parameter, Baby drops are 2.5 times better - 1 ml - 100 mg. As excipients, the preparations include banana flavor, sorbitol, sodium cyclamate and other components that give the medicine a sweetish taste and pleasant smell. Sugar-free emulsion is available for use by small patients with diabetes.

Another difference between the two forms is packaging. The Espumisan L box includes a measuring cap, and the Baby formula includes a measuring spoon for more convenient dosing and use.

What is a carminative prescribed for?

From birth to 4–5 months, newborns and infants have an immature digestive system, so severe swelling, gas buildup, and colic can occur after eating.

Other reasons:

  • overfeeding;
  • poor peristalsis;
  • immobility for a long time;
  • ingestion and accumulation of air in the intestines.

To eliminate these factors, the Espumisan carminative is used.

Indications for the prescription of the drug are bloating, increased gas formation and intestinal colic. At the same time, the baby is naughty, crying, tightens his legs, his sleep and mood are disturbed.

Along with the medicine, you can use non-traditional methods of dealing with the problem:

  • laying on the stomach before feeding;
  • tummy massage;
  • exercise "bike" for kids; when the mother presses the baby's legs to the stomach;
  • applying a warm diaper.

Another indication for use is poor digestion.

In 3 to 4 months, the baby’s digestive system matures; in some cases, problems with microflora take up to 6 months. Then the drug is used less often or not at all.

Instructions for use and dosage for newborns

After use, the product collapses the gas bubbles and removes them in a natural, painless way. After use, it is valid for 10 minutes, the carminative effect lasts up to 4 to 6 hours. Advantages of the medicine - no addiction, absorption in the intestines and blood flow.

Instructions for use determine the dosage regimen of the medicine: for each dose, 25 drops of “Espumisan L” or a measured pipette “Espumisan Baby” should be taken. The medication is prescribed for use before feeding or after in a pure or dissolved form. The solvent may be infant formula, breast milk. Normal water in this capacity is not used for breastfeeding due to the different density of these fluids.

Before use, the vial with the medicinal composition should be shaken. According to mothers, it is more convenient to give “Espumisan Baby” - it does not need to be prepared in advance, just pick up a pipette. Espumisan L is given in drops, additional time is required for preparation. When using a measuring cup, it is necessary to transfuse into a convenient container - a spoon, a bottle with a pacifier.

The duration of admission is determined individually until the symptoms of increased gas formation disappear, colic. The medication is absolutely safe, can be used for a long time without harm to health.

Giving "Espumisan" to the newborn should be 3-4 times a day during the day. If necessary, you can repeat the reception before bedtime during the last feeding. This helps to eliminate flatulence and better sleep for the baby and mother.

Drug interaction

Adverse reactions during clinical trials were not identified. The medicine is well tolerated, however, several carminative agents should not be used at once.

Does not interact with other pharmaceuticals.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

The emulsion in the vast majority of cases is well tolerated and does not cause unwanted reactions. An allergy to excipients is possible - sugar syrup, banana flavor. In such a situation, it is necessary to replace the medicine with an analogue in composition or action.

Cases of drug overdose are not recorded. When taking the medicine, it is important to follow the dosing rules, do not give it to the baby more than 3-4 times a day.

A limitation to the purpose is the individual intolerance of the main substance - simethicone and auxiliary components (flavoring, sorbitol or sodium saccharinate). The medicine is contraindicated in intestinal obstruction. Allowed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Similar in composition

Espumisan has three analogues, similar in composition:

  • Bobotik
  • "Sub Simplex";
  • and Antiflat Lannacher.

They differ in dosage, restrictions on use, pricing.They are prescribed if the drug does not help or is poorly tolerated.

  • Bobotik is produced by a Polish pharmaceutical company. The medicine has a raspberry smell, it has no sugar. It contains simethicone in a dosage of 66.66 mg per 1 ml. It is used for increased gas formation, their accumulation in the digestive tract, colic. Unlike Espumisan, the medicine should not be given to newborns (up to 28 days from birth). Other restrictions on the appointment - individual intolerance, intestinal obstruction, obstructive diseases of the stomach and intestines. For infants, the medicine is dosed 8 drops 3-4 times a day, they contain 20 mg of the active ingredient. The drug is taken after meals, dissolved in breast milk, boiled water or a mixture for baby food.
  • "Sub Simplex" is a preparation of a French pharmaceutical company. It contains two flavors - raspberry and vanilla. The concentration of the main component in 1 ml is 69.19 mg. Restrictions on the use of the medicine are the same as those of Espumisan and its analogues: individual intolerance, obstructive gastrointestinal diseases, intestinal obstruction. "Sub Simplex" can be taken from 1 day of life to 15 drops 3-4 times a day before or after feeding. When breastfeeding, the medicine can be given from a spoon. With artificial feeding, the drug can be dissolved in a mixture.
  • Antiflat Lannacher is produced in Austria and contains almost the same amount of simethicone as Espumisan L (41.2 mg per 1 ml). It is available in larger volumes than its analogues - 50 and 100 ml each. The number of drops per reception, the frequency of use depends on age and is determined by the doctor.

Espumisan is a safe medicine for treating colic from the first days of life. It eases the baby's condition - he does not have to cry and scream, to stretch his legs, and soothes the mother. Well tolerated, does not cause unwanted effects.
