An attempt by a woman to become pregnant is unlikely to succeed if her body has insufficient levels of progesterone. Such hormonal disorders affect not only the possibility of conception, but also the health of the entire system of female genital organs. To maintain a normal hormonal background, the doctor prescribes Duphaston during pregnancy, due to which it is possible to reduce the risk of a miscarriage in the first trimester of gestation.

The composition of the drug

The role of the main active component in the composition of the drug is didrogesterone, created by specialists in the laboratory by synthetic means. This artificial substance is a complete analogue of the female hormone progesterone.

In the body of a healthy woman, a sufficient amount of progesterone is normally produced in order to ensure the full development of the fetus in the early stages of pregnancy. If there are any violations of the reproductive function, the production of this progestogen does not occur fully or completely stops, which, in turn, carries a serious threat of miscarriage.

Dydrogesterone in the body makes up for the lack of progesterone and is an absolutely safe active substance, the effect of which does not affect the natural process of blood coagulation.

One tablet of the medicine contains 10 mg of the active ingredient.

As auxiliary components used:

  • methoxypropyl cellulose;
  • lactose monohydrate;
  • magnesium stearate.

Pharmacological action, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The female hormone progesterone belongs to the class of progestogens - steroid hormones that play a special role in a woman's body both during pregnancy and throughout life. So, for example, a lack of progesterone provokes disruptions in the menstrual cycle, due to which other concomitant diseases of the reproductive system develop.

The molecular structure of artificially created dydrogesterone exactly repeats the structure of the natural female hormone produced in the body by the ovaries, adrenal cortex or placenta during the period of gestation. The maximum production of the substance occurs in the middle of the menstrual cycle, during the period of ovulation. If ovum fertilization does not occur, gradually towards the end of the cycle the level of progesterone decreases. The reverse reaction occurs in case of successful conception.

In pregnant women, the number of progestogens, on the contrary, increases. Due to the increased level of female hormones, the uterus is being prepared for further implantation of the embryo. In addition to the above, progesterone also affects the body's ability to bear the baby, provide it with all the vital micro and macro elements.

Duphaston has the following pharmacological effects:

  • allows you to maintain the hormonal background of a woman at the proper level;
  • prevents the development of various pathologies in the fetus and the expectant mother;
  • reduces the risk of a miscarriage;
  • relaxes the muscles, preparing the woman’s body for the birth process;
  • improves mood, helps fight depression and apathy;
  • used for the treatment and prevention of many gynecological diseases.

The process of absorption of the active ingredient after ingestion occurs within two hours. Then, after a day, up to 85% of the substance is excreted in the urine, and after three days the drug is completely removed from the body.

What is prescribed for planning and early pregnancy?

As already noted above, a lack of progesterone adversely affects the reproductive function of the female body, which subsequently can lead to the loss of the baby. In the early stages of pregnancy, Duphaston prevents any abnormalities, whether it is genetic abnormalities in the fetus or hormonal imbalances that pose a serious threat to the life of the embryo. As a rule, progesterone deficiency is observed by doctors in the first trimester of gestation. In the subsequent stages of pregnancy, a lack of hormone no longer bothers the expectant mother.

An insufficient level of progestogens in the early stages of pregnancy is a consequence of the formation of the placenta. Once this process is completed, the hormonal background is stabilized, and the amount of progesterone increases markedly. As for planning a long-awaited pregnancy, in this case, women often face many problems caused by diseases of the reproductive system.

These include:

  • endometriosis;
  • polycystic ovary;
  • uterine fibroids and other diseases caused by hormonal changes.

Often, all these pathologies arise due to insufficient production of female hormones and an increase in the level of male biologically active substances. When planning a pregnancy, Duphaston is prescribed to normalize the natural balance of hormones, eliminate the consequences of its improper synthesis, and also to restore a woman's menstrual cycle.

Important! Use of this hormonal drug is necessary only with the permission of your doctor. Be sure to consult with a gynecologist in case of any abnormalities, and also pass all the appropriate tests to more accurately determine the level of progesterone in the blood.

Instructions for use Duphaston

The gynecologist determines the dosage of the drug based on the data from the analyzes. The duration of therapy depends on the patient's condition, the severity of the clinical symptoms of progesterone deficiency, as well as on the individual characteristics of the body. It is believed that the drug is safe for women up to 16 weeks of pregnancy. If necessary, therapy can be increased by a maximum of another 6 weeks.

In this case, the tool helps to prevent early childbirth, since there is no risk of a miscarriage in the later stages. The cancellation of "Duphaston" should occur gradually, so that the abrupt cessation of drug use does not negatively affect the condition of the fetus and the expectant mother. To do this, at the initial stage, the daily dosage is halved, and the cancellation period should be at least 7 days.

Drug interaction

Specialists have not noted any cases of incompatibility of the drug with other drugs. However, you should be especially careful when taking several hormonal drugs at once, which contain a large number of progestogens and estrogens.

An improper combination of drugs and overdosing can lead to unpleasant side effects such as dizziness, nausea, weight gain, and even poisoning. In addition, drugs from the group of barbiturates contribute to the acceleration of metabolic processes, thereby significantly reducing the effective effect of synthetic progesterone.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

Unlike preparations based on testosterone, Duphaston tablets are recognized by experts as absolutely safe when used correctly in accordance with the appointment of a gynecologist. The main contraindication is only individual intolerance to the body of glucose or dydrogesterone, and also if the patient was diagnosed with malabsorption syndrome.

In rare cases, medications developed on the basis of the female hormone progesterone provoke the following side effects:

  • severe migraine;
  • unstable emotional state;
  • general malaise of the whole organism;
  • insomnia and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • loss or increase in appetite;
  • skin rashes.

In addition, in the early stages of pregnancy, Duphaston, with the wrong combination with estrogen, can cause severe bleeding. In order to avoid such consequences, the gynecologist selects an individual dosage of hormonal drugs for each patient. Also, the drug is contraindicated in women who have serious genetic diseases of the liver.

Cases of overdose have not been recorded in medical practice.

Analogs

Note! The analogues presented below have the same effect that Duphaston is characterized by, but their intake should in no case be contrary to the instructions of the attending physician. Any adjustments should be made under the guidance of a competent specialist.

There are two analogues of Dufaston:

  1. Dufaston;
  2. "Dydrogesterone."

The basis of these two drugs is still the same didrogesterone, created synthetically. The only difference is the use of some minor auxiliary components. The advantage of these medicines is lower cost in comparison with the previously presented Dufaston. At the same time, the clinical effect and effectiveness of budget analogues is in no way inferior to the more expensive drug.

The health of the entire female body as a whole depends on the state of the reproductive system. Do not allow the development of hormonal disorders, be examined in a timely manner by a competent specialist, so that no diseases prevent you from feeling the incredible joy of motherhood.
