Anthurium, despite its exotic origin, our growers are happy to grow. One of the important stages of caring for anthurium is a transplant, which must be performed according to certain rules.

Anthurium: nuances of transplantation

This houseplant should be replanted regularly, as its root system develops very quickly and fills the entire pot. If the roots fill the entire flowerpot, and the flower becomes a dough, then this will certainly affect its appearance - the leaves will begin to fade, become covered with spots, the anthurium will cease to bloom magnificent.

As soon as the roots appear in the drainage holes of the pot, the flower needs to be transplanted into a more spacious container.

Transplant Ground Requirements

You can buy land for a flower transplant in a gardening store. The plant in the wild grows in thickets, where there is a lot of fallen bark and decayed foliage. Therefore, the mixture for anthurium should be similar to the earth in natural conditions. The soil must be well permeable, loose and light.

Rarely enough, but in stores you can find special soil for transplanting specifically for anthuriums. Although these plants can be grown in soil for orchids. The composition of the substrate for orchids is moss, pine bark and ash, as well as peat, which are great for growing the plants under discussion.

In extreme cases, you can buy a substrate for growing begonias, in which Anthuriums also live well.

Preparation of soil mix at home

If there is no way to buy ready-made soil, then you can compose it yourself.Anthuriums will grow well in a mixture of leaf and coniferous land with the addition of peat and sand.

You can also prepare such a soil: mix ½ part of granular sand, add part of peat and sheet soil, introduce 2 parts of humus.

The main thing is that the prepared land for transplantation is well permeable by air and water, otherwise the plant will not develop properly.

How to choose a container for anthurium?

When choosing a flowerpot for this green "pet", you first need to pay attention to the drainage holes in it. Drainage and free flow of excess water are very important for these flowers.

If we talk about the choice of material, then such a plant will be fine in a clay pot or in a plastic one. It is impossible for him to purchase a metal pot or glass, as these materials do not combine with the components of the soil for anthurium.

The size of the pot is chosen according to the age of the plant - the more the root system is developed in it, the more spacious the pot should be.

Step-by-step transplant instructions

When a transplant is performed at home, it is very important to follow all the rules, because the health of the flower depends on it.

  1. It is best to carry out the entire procedure on the table. It must first be covered with a film. A large basin or bucket is also useful.
  2. At the bottom of the pot in which the flower will be transplanted, be sure to make a drainage. For this, you can use expanded clay, chipped red brick. On top of the laid drainage, a little fresh soil is poured, which should be slightly shed.
  3. The plant in the old pot is abundantly watered to soften the earthen lump.
  4. When the top layer of earth in the flowerpot becomes loose, it is removed for the convenience of transplantation.
  5. Gently grasping the base of the stems of the bush with one hand, and the second for the pot, carefully remove the plant along with a lump of earth.
  6. When the flower is removed from the old flowerpot, it is set together with a lump of earth in the center of the new flowerpot so that the air roots are below the new soil level. Usually this is about 4 cm below the top edge of the flowerpot.
  7. Gradually fill all the voids between the walls of the pot and the roots of the plant with fresh soil. The soil mixture is distributed evenly between the roots.
  8. When transplanting, it is very important to ensure that the root neck of the flower is 2 cm covered by a layer of fresh soil. Otherwise, the plant may even die.
  9. Having filled up a completely new pot with earth, the flower needs to be watered. After transplantation, anthurium can be processed for faster rooting with Zircon, diluting 4 drops of the drug in 1 liter of water.
  10. After all the procedures, the flower should be put in the shade for a week and provided with abundant watering.

Caring for anthurium after transplantation

Transplant after purchase for anthuriums is a must-have item. And so that the flower quickly takes root in a new place and does not get sick, it is necessary to create the right conditions for it.

First of all, the pot is placed in a shady place. It is advisable that there be light diffused lighting. The flower will grow faster on the east or west window.

In no case should a transplanted anthurium be placed in the sun.

The air temperature is also important. It is impossible that the room was colder +18 degrees. The plant must be protected from drafts. A very important aspect is air humidity, which should be increased.

If the house has an aquarium, then it is advisable to put a pot next to it. So the anthurium will be enough moisture. If this is not possible, then the flower is sprayed. It is necessary to spray several times a day and the air around the plant to artificially increase its moisture.

It is impossible to feed anthuriums after transplantation. It should be about a month before fertilizing begins under the transplanted plant.

Possible transplant problems

The main problem of almost all transplanted anthuriums is yellowing of foliage. Perhaps the root system of the flower does not take root well in improper soil.Or maybe the roots of the anthurium were damaged.

The only thing a grower needs to do so that the anthurium quickly comes to its senses and takes root in a new place is to constantly spray it and moisten the air in the room. A transplanted plant needs high humidity.

It happens that after a transplant, the anthurium does not grow for a long time. If the roots were disturbed, then it takes time for the flower to start growing. It also happens that a flowering plant is transplanted, which spends energy on flowering. Such specimens after transplantation also do not grow for a long time.

Do I need a transplant after purchase?

Once you have acquired anthurium, it is advisable to transplant it from a purchased pot into a more convenient and spacious container in the nutrient soil. Transplantation of anthurium after the purchase should occur within three days, otherwise problems with the flower may begin.

It is advisable to transplant the plant in the spring and summer, when it has a supply of vitality for growth and development.
